Fall 2023 Safe Church Training (Virtual)
September 20 @ 6:00 pm - 8:30 pm CDT

FALL SAFE CHURCH TRAINING
Safe Church Training is required every three years for all clergy, all paid staff workers, and all volunteers who work with vulnerable populations. Clergy and staff must participate in an in-person training workshop with a diocesan-approved trainer. The in-person training is also strongly recommended for all volunteers, although the online training modules through the Praesidium platform are acceptable for volunteers who are unable to make an in-person workshop.
A list of the required modules for online training can be found here.
The Diocese will be sponsoring Safe Church Training seminars once each fall and once each spring. If a parish would like to host additional training sessions, it may do so by arrangement with a diocesan-approved trainer but will need to cover the related expenses.
This fall, our diocesan Safe Church Coordinator, the Rev. Dr. Jesse Abell (he/him), will lead the following Safe Church training sessions:
Universal Training (for volunteers)
- Saturday, September 16, 9am – 10:30am in-person at St. John’s Episcopal Church, Memphis
- Wednesday, September 20, 6pm – 7:30pm via Zoom (This session meets the “in-person” requirement.)
Training for Clergy and Workers
- Saturday, September 16, 9am – 11:30am in-person at St. John’s Episcopal Church, Memphis
- Wednesday, September 20, 6pm – 8:30pm via Zoom (This session meets the “in-person” requirement.)
Safe Church Training must be completed every 3 years, and anyone who has not been trained since 2020 must complete the required training to meet the diocesan and greater Episcopal Church requirements.
