SUMMARY:Lectio Divina Group
DESCRIPTION:Lectio Divina originated in the third century as a traditional monastic practice of scriptural reading\, meditation and prayer intended to promote communion with God and to increase the knowledge of God’s Word. It does not treat Scripture as texts to be studied\, but as the living Word. You can practice this form of biblical contemplation alone any time in the privacy of your own home. Click here for more information on the Four Steps of Lectio Divina. \nSt. Thomas the Apostle’s twice-monthly Lectio Divina group meets at 9:15 AM in the parish hall. The group is organized and led by Ceara Pickett. At St. Thomas\, the focus for contemplation and meditation is the Gospel lection appointed for the particular Sunday the group meets. \nTo learn more about St. Thomas’ meetings\, contact Ceara Pickett: cpicab@icloud.com.

SUMMARY:Lifelong Learning from St. Edward Chapel at Trezevant Manor (Memphis)
DESCRIPTION:Each Wednesday at 3 p.m.\, St. Edward Chapel at Trezevant Manor invites you to join the Chaplain’s Class. These classes are open to all. For more information\, contact the Rev. Paul McLain at pmclain@trezevantmanor.org. \n\nAug. 19\, 26\, Sept. 2\, 9\, 16: \n Chaplain Paul McLain will lead a study of Brian Goldstone’s Pulitzer-prize winning book\, There Is No Place for Us: Working and Homeless in America. Through revelatory reporting on five Atlanta families\, Goldstone exposes a deeply troubling trend: the dramatic rise of the working homeless in America’s thriving cities. His work delivers an urgent message about skyrocketing rents\, low wages\, and the displacement happening in communities like ours. Brian will be the featured speaker at the MIFA (Metropolitan Inter-Faith Association) Our City\, Our Story luncheon Sept. 15. \nCopies of the book are available at the class (suggested donation $20).
