SUMMARY:Quarterly 12-Step Eucharist\, Open 12-Step Meeting\, and Refreshments
DESCRIPTION:Quarterly 12-Step Eucharist\, Open 12-Step Meeting\, and RefreshmentsMay 8 at 6 PMEveryone is welcome! Folks in Recovery. Friends of Folks in Recovery. Folks who think they may have a problem. EVERYONE can benefit from the 12 steps.Location: Barth House Episcopal Center | 409 Patterson St.\, Memphis\, TN 38111Contact episcopal@recoverycommission.org\n\nThis communion service combines scripture\, the liturgy of the word and table\, and the 12 steps and demonstrates how the spirituality and principles of the 12 steps are an integral part of the Eucharist of the Episcopal Church. For people in recovery\, this service will demonstrate how each of the 12 steps is present in the liturgy of the word and the table. For those not involved in 12-step recovery\, this service will be an introduction to the spirituality of 12-step programs.\n\nThe Episcopal Church’s relationship with 12-step recovery goes back to 1935\, when Episcopal priest Dr. Samuel Shoemaker worked with Bill W. and Dr. Bob S. to develop the organization that is known today as Alcoholics Anonymous. AA\, in turn\, became the model for numerous other addiction (substance & behavioral) recovery programs that are based on the same original 12 steps.\n\nOur experience is that all would benefit from the principles of the 12 step programs as a spiritual tool in seeking God’s grace to live a healthier\, more authentic life. This Eucharist is an open-door\, come-as-you-are service to celebrate sobriety and to pray for peace for those struggling with alcoholism and other addictions in themselves or their loved ones. We invite those who are involved in 12 step recovery\, as well as those who are not members of a 12-step program\, to attend.\n\nEpiscopal Diocese of West Tennessee Addiction & Recovery Commission Co-Chairs: Lucy Owens (901-497-0691) and Shannon Tucker (901-281-0785).
