Education for Ministry registration now open

Education for Ministry (EfM) was founded in 1975 at the School of Theology of the University of the South in Sewanee, Tennessee. For 50 years, over 120,000 people have learned about Scripture, Christian tradition, their faith and each other in small groups in West Tennessee and around the world.

“I found my understanding of theology deepened – not only in knowledge, but in lived experience. Just as meaningful were the companions along the way: a circle of seekers who listened with grace, spoke with honesty, and walked beside me in both doubt and discovery.”

–Joe Brandenburg, Calvary

If you are interested in starting the EfM journey, or if you are a graduate looking to continue on the path, see Sewanee’s EfM web site for more information or contact one of the EfM mentors below. Since last year there is a revised curriculum with new materials, and there are more options to participate.

For most of its existence EfM has been a four-year program. Now there is also a “Wide Angle,” one-year option that is ideal for people wanting to give EfM a try in a shorter format or for graduates who miss the EfM community and want to come back.

“I loved the study itself, but I cherish even more the opportunity EFM gave me to know my fellow seekers.  EFM creates a space where all participants come to know each other in deeper and more meaningfully spiritual ways than most any other venue I’ve experienced.”

–John Planchon, Sr., St. George’s

EfM registration will begin later in July, and most groups will start meeting in late August or early September. Contact the mentors below for more information about EfM and for details about registration and meeting times.

“I joined EfM because I wanted to enhance my understanding of my Christian faith…and I certainly have.  But my experience with EfM has been far more about growing as a member of a small group of spiritual inquirers into the core practices of our faith… I find I am more appreciative of the gifts of all who surround me and more attentive to the presence of the Holy Spirit at work in my corner of the world.”
