About Us

Christ Church Brownsville was founded in 1832 as Zion Church. It was one of the first five Episcopal churches established in West Tennessee. The present Gothic Revival church building was erected in 1854. The name of the church was changed to Christ Church in 1898.

We hold Morning Prayer services on the 1st, 3rd , and 5th Sundays. Holy Eucharist is served on the 2nd and 4th Sundays. Currently, the Rev. Deacon Drew Woodruff is conducting the services on the 2nd & 4th Sundays.

We enjoy a Teddy Bear Ministry outreach to the children of the community by donating and delivering stuffed animals to the local hospital, ambulance service and the Carl Perkins Center, a service for abused children.

We are a friendly, warm, and inviting congregation.

Worship Schedule

1st, 3rd, 5th Sundays: Morning prayer at 10:30 am.
2nd and 4th Sundays: Eucharist at 11:00 am.

Ministries

We have participated in our community’s fall festival, where we exhibited our crafts, which include pottery, stained glass, paintings, note cards, and baked goods. Funds received go to our community projects.

Save the Bell Campaign

In October 2024, we launched a Save the Bell Campaign to support the restoration of our historic bell tower and church building. Built in 1854, Christ Church is the oldest house of worship in Brownsville and has withstood the Civil War, the Yellow Fever epidemic, and generations of change. Over time, water damage compromised the 19th-century brickwork of the bell tower and part of the nave, but thanks to a $100,000 grant from the Historic Property Acquisition Fund administered by the Tennessee Historical Commission, restoration efforts are underway to preserve this Gothic Revival landmark. The Brownsville community continues to rally behind the project, ensuring that the bell tower—completed in 1867—remains a lasting symbol of faith and resilience. Please contact us for more information or to contribute to the Save the Bell Campaign.
