Art Gallery Exhibit – Lost, Forgotten, Abandoned
August 10, 2023 @ 9:30 am - August 31, 2023 @ 4:00 pm CDT
An event every day that begins at 9:30 am, repeating until August 27, 2023
August 6-27 the Art Gallery at St. George’s Episcopal Church will showcase an exhibit by Donald Golden, a Memphis, TN based fine art and portrait photographer. All of his fine art photography projects are an extension of his passion for urban exploration and the desire to give forgotten places a new lease on life. These limited-edition images focus on the haunting beauty of abandoned buildings, architectural structures, and the fascinating oddities found within. Golden’s captures images with available light only, minimal post-process editing and no high dynamic range (HDR) techniques. A self-taught photographer, Golden also prints his own photographs and frames his prints in antique windows, transoms, cabinets with minimal reconditioning and featuring the original wavy glass in most, and making frames from antique tongue-and-groove beadboard from 80-to-100 year-old houses from the Mississippi delta. Golden has recently explored a new technique of framing using antique mirrors in which he removes the silvering from the back of the mirror to use the original glass. Golden calls this edition of framed prints on antique mirrors the Lost Reflections collection.
Golden has been exhibiting for a number of years in the Memphis area, and recently was awarded Judge’s Choice for 2D art at Ridgeland, MS Fine Arts Festival 2023. Previous exhibits at WKNO Gallery Ten Ninety One, Winter Arts Market in Germantown, Summer in the City Art exhibit at Memphis Botanic Gardens, Artworks Foundation Art in the Loop (Memphis), River Arts Fest Memphis, Pink Palace Arts & Crafts, and in Four Bridges Art Festival in Chattanooga, and in Mississippi at the Ridgeland Fine Arts Festival and Double Decker Arts Fest in Oxford.
A portion of the proceeds from sales in The Gallery supports the work of Carpenter Art Garden, which brings the arts to the underserved Binghampton community. St. George’s Art Gallery is located within St. George’s Episcopal Church and is accessed through the front doors. The Gallery is open M – F from 9:30 a.m. – 4 p.m. and Sundays from 9:00 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.
