“On the Row” Film Screening

Barth House Episcopal Center invites you to an evening of truth-telling, witness, and reflection through the screening of On the Row: Stories from Arkansas’ Death Row. This powerful documentary film features professional actors performing the original writings of men incarcerated on Arkansas’ death row—offering the public a rare window into their lived experiences, reflections, and humanity.
Created by the Prison Story Project under the leadership of Kathy McGregor, On the Row draws from a multi-year storytelling initiative that centered the voices of those behind bars. The staged reading was professionally filmed during a live performance in Wichita, Kansas, and includes an epilogue featuring letters from the incarcerated men reflecting on the impact of seeing their own words shared with the world.

Why It Matters
This screening offers a space to encounter the deep spiritual and moral questions surrounding the death penalty through the lens of lived testimony. The emotional weight of the film often leaves audiences speechless—a moment held with care through a brief liturgical prayer and reflective silence before the Q&A. As one attendee shared, “It’s not just a film—it’s a reckoning.”
