Choral Evensong at Grace-St. Luke’s

Choral Evensong Celebrating the Feast of St. Luke at Grace-St. Luke’s. Please join the Memphis Boy & Girl Choir and Grace-St. Luke’s Choir for a Festal Choral Evensong celebrating St. Luke, the GSL Patron Saint, on Sunday, October 20, at 5 p.m. Guest choirmaster/organist Michael W. Smith will conduct the choir. Mr. Smith is the current president of Royal School of Church Music America and is Minister of Music at St. Thomas Episcopal Church, Whitemarsh, PA. Pieces to include: Calvin Hampton, Fairest Lord Jesus; Herbert Sumsion, Magnificat & Nunc Dimittis in G; Paul Halley, Jesu, the very thought of thee; William Smith, Preces & Responses.
One of the ancient and modern aspects of the Anglican / Episcopal tradition is the beautiful service of Choral Evensong (sung Evening Prayer). This contemplative liturgy is led by a member of the clergy and the choir with hymns sung by the congregation and enhanced with mild hypoallergenic incense. Each includes the Magnificat (Song of Mary), Nunc Dimittis (Song of Simeon), and an anthem. In person and online.
